Parent Guidelines
Parents are an essential part of Mid-Ohio Christian Co-op and play a vital role in helping create a safe, organized, and Christ-centered environment for all families. Because we are a cooperative community, parental involvement, communication, and participation are necessary for co-op to operate successfully.
Parents and guardians are expected to:
- Remain actively involved in their child’s education and co-op experience
- Ensure children are supervised at all times when not in class
- Arrive on time for classes, activities, and pick-up
- Follow all co-op policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
- Complete assigned service hour responsibilities faithfully and on time
- Communicate respectfully with teachers, volunteers, board members, and other families
- Support classroom expectations and disciplinary decisions
- Keep emergency contact and medical information current within the registration system
- Monitor co-op communication platforms regularly for updates and announcements
Parents are responsible for their children at all times while on campus unless their child is currently in a supervised class or approved activity. Children should not be left unattended in hallways, parking lots, common areas, or outside areas without proper supervision.
To help maintain a positive atmosphere for everyone, concerns or conflicts should be addressed respectfully and privately. Gossip, divisive behavior, or public confrontation is not acceptable and does not reflect the values of our co-op community.
We encourage all families to approach co-op with flexibility, servant leadership, and a willingness to work together as we build a strong and supportive homeschool community.
Code of Conduct
As members of Mid-Ohio Christian Co-op, all families, students, teachers, and volunteers are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects Christ-like character, respect for others, and a commitment to maintaining a positive learning environment.
We believe co-op functions best when everyone works together with kindness, patience, integrity, and mutual respect. Members are expected to treat others courteously, communicate respectfully, and resolve disagreements in a constructive and Biblical manner.
Students are expected to:
- Follow classroom and campus rules
- Show respect to teachers, helpers, parents, and fellow students
- Participate appropriately in classes and activities
- Use respectful language and behavior at all times
- Help care for the facility, classrooms, and shared spaces
Parents and guardians are expected to:
- Support co-op policies and leadership decisions
- Communicate respectfully with teachers, volunteers, and board members
- Supervise their children when they are not in class
- Fulfill service commitments and responsibilities
- Model positive behavior and cooperation within the co-op community
Behavior that is disruptive, unsafe, threatening, inappropriate, dishonest, or consistently disrespectful may result in disciplinary action. Depending on the situation, this may include a verbal warning, parent meeting, probation, suspension, loss of privileges, or removal from co-op.
Our goal is always to maintain a safe, encouraging, and Christ-centered environment where families can learn, grow, and serve together successfully.
Working Together as a Co-op
At Mid-Ohio Christian Co-op, we are a cooperative community, not a drop-off program. Our co-op operates successfully because families work together to serve, support, and care for one another. Every family plays an important role in helping our co-op function smoothly and efficiently.
Service hours are a shared responsibility and are essential to the daily operation of co-op. From classroom assistance and hallway monitoring to cleaning, setup, hospitality, and committee support, each task helps create a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for our students and families.
By participating in service opportunities, families help lighten the workload for everyone, build stronger relationships within our community, and model servant leadership for our children. When each family contributes faithfully, the entire co-op benefits.
We ask all members to approach service with a willing heart, flexibility, and a team mindset as we work together to make co-op a positive and successful experience for everyone.
Emergency Procedures
The safety and security of our students, families, and staff are a top priority at Mid-Ohio Christian Co-op. In the event of an emergency, all members are expected to remain calm, follow directions from board members and security personnel, and adhere to established safety procedures.
Each classroom is equipped with a red emergency folder containing important emergency information and procedures. These folders include items such as class rosters, emergency contact information, evacuation routes, shelter locations, and emergency response instructions. Teachers and classroom helpers should familiarize themselves with the contents of the red folder at the beginning of each semester.
In the event of a fire drill, severe weather, lockdown, medical emergency, or evacuation, the teacher or classroom helper should take the red emergency folder when exiting the classroom and account for all students assigned to their class.
For the safety of everyone on campus, families and students are expected to follow all emergency instructions immediately and avoid re-entering the building or leaving designated areas until an all-clear has been given by co-op leadership or emergency personnel.
Fees & Scholarships
Mid-Ohio Christian Co-op requires annual membership and registration fees to help support the operation and growth of the co-op. These fees assist with expenses such as website services, insurance, facility costs, security, cleaning and toiletry supplies, equipment, and general operational needs.
All required fees must be paid in accordance with co-op policies and payment deadlines. Membership and class registrations are not considered finalized until payment has been received and approved. Families with outstanding balances may have their accounts placed in a restricted or “parked” status until payment arrangements have been resolved.
Membership and registration fees are non-refundable and non-prorated. These fees are charged per family and help cover annual operating costs that remain the same regardless of when a family registers during the school year.
Class fees are determined by individual teachers and may vary depending on curriculum, supplies, materials, and course requirements. Families are responsible for reviewing class descriptions carefully and paying all associated fees by the stated deadlines.
Limited scholarships or financial assistance opportunities may be available based on available funding and board approval. Scholarship requests are handled confidentially and are considered on a case-by-case basis. Receiving scholarship assistance does not remove a family’s responsibility to fulfill co-op service requirements, policies, or expectations.
Families experiencing financial hardship are encouraged to communicate with co-op leadership as early as possible so appropriate options or arrangements may be discussed.
